High Efficiency Production and Processing of High Value Products from Microalgae

Abstract/Technology Overview

Algae-based CO2 fixation and biorefinery is one of the most efficient CO2-capture and renewable energy production strategy, mainly due to the outstanding CO2 fixation and photosynthetic capacities of algae. The technology consists of a highly efficient microalgae production system and downstream technology for the chemical free extraction of target compounds in the algae. The technologies have been validated through a commercial-scale 300-ton microalgae cultivation system and also used in lutein production facility.

Technology Features, Specifications and Advantages

·        A rich and complete database of microalgae has been established that allows strong know-how and expertise to handle different species.

·        Established a high-pressure water technique to disrupt the cell wall and supercritical fluid extraction system to extract the functional components from microalgae for follow-up commercialization.

·        Production technology has been validated at industrial microalgae demonstration farm and its related technologies and equipment, some of which have also been successfully operated in large-scale field.

·        Technology Platform has been utilised for lutein production pilot using microalgae and lutein content is higher 20 times than the present source as marigold flower.

Potential Applications

The technology platform can be applied in the following industries: healthy food, care product, animal feed additives, wastewater processing, and specialty chemicals.

Customer Benefit

The technology is an eco-friendly and energy-efficient CO2 capture and re-utilization platform. Through this platform, the company produce algae-based products that have low production cost, high product value, and are commercially viable.
